Do they choose the designers or do the designers choose them?
I´ve herad that brands buy tables. But what about spouses who wear different designers? Does that mean that they have to sit at different tables?
How much power does Anna have over the guests´ outfits? (For example Kims choice to wear Marilyn Monroe´s dress last year.)
Isn´t it a bad look that some brands (like Louis Vuitton) do not create custom looks and just use dresses from their current collection?
I hope my questions are understandable. (English is not my first language.)
I think I became aware of the Met Gala in 2011 because of the Alexander McQueen exhibition. In the following years I was really excited about the themes and every May I was looking forward to the pictures and videos of the event. I even send pictures of my favourite outfits to my best friend: Claire Danes in that light-up dress, Tracey Ellis Ross in Comme des Garcons, Fan Bingbing in Christopher Bu...
But in the last five years (starting with Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination) I started to lose interest in the Met Gala because I found most of the outfits so underwhelming. I mean how do you make Camp so boring!?! I don´t know, I hate to sound like such a bummer but to me the Met Gala has kind of lost its spark.
And I get that Karl Lagerfeld was an influential designer and that Anna loved him and I´m sure the exhibition is really interesting. But I am not really excited to see what the celebrities wear this year.
I don´t know, I feel a bit like the grinch and I hope that I regain my excitement for the Met Gala and fashion in generell in the coming years.
Nevertheless I really love your writing, Amy, and look forward to your take on this years Met Gala!
