The clock alone is disgusting.. Who even thinks up crap like that and how many people could have been helped with what that cost??
In today’s world these two look tacky and tone deaf and Anna is clueless because I don’t think anyone is aspiring to be them….Yet we all keep buying everything from him and funding him flying his toys to space.
I agree with you! Vogue, and high fashion in general, have always been about fantasy and aspiration. The disconnect with this article is that Bezos and Sanchez are really not what anyone fantasizes about or aspires to these days. They seem like cartoon villains, and not the least bit chic.
Annie Leibovitz, how could you? I want to believe that these pictures are so cringeworthy because her lens reveals all...but I don’t think that’s the case here. I think these images were taken in earnest and ended up looking like a tacky catalog shoot because of the subject *and* the photographer. Sure there are gorgeous backgrounds and those Leibovitz tones. But yeesh.
As usual, another great read! I agree that I'm not that surprised that Anna is following the money, but I'm wondering if it's particularly ugly right now because the other current popular 'trend' is quiet luxury, and this is the opposite of that. It also doesn't read aspirational in any way (even the Kardashian cover was mildly aspirational, sorta?) so it doesn't fulfil that need for rich people to read it for inspiration either. So...doesn't work for their audience or the audience they're courting? Plus jeez the Photoshop is just BAD
Chloe Malle manages to slide a few quietly underhanded comments into the piece beginning with the description of the Bezos laugh....would love to get the down low from Chloe on this interview.

true re: Amazon -- however the FTC is suing them for monopoly, so...

Absolutely! That is where Vogue has lost me... Who is their reader??
AW is completely without soul.

Are they courting Jeff Bezos for an investment?

The whole thing is so weird and grim
