Amy, that last line really sums it up. Am I alone in thinking the Met Gala has become an almost ghoulish freak show? It's so decadent that it gives off a distinct "fall of Rome" vibe.

Where a cultural institution becomes a capital institution. You nailed it Amy, follow the money. It’s honestly disgraceful, considering the reach of audience these exhibits and events have now, they have the ability to speak to the biggest and most pressing issues of our time through culture. And yet. This falls flat on inspiring, educating, or even moving us...(can’t help but recall how emotive that McQueen show was... and it showed the non fashion world public a creative mind that happened to choose fashion as his medium.)

Oh my word, the iPhone room quotes made me GUFFAW! 'Wherever he is, he's there' and 'I think I met him one time' feel like the juice for a brilliant satire! Is it too late to re-write the biopic? (Also, to sack Jared Leto? Although, on second thoughts, maybe he is the perfect guy to play a weird, toxic, deluded guy...)

It seems like big, established companies with big budgets always have terrible, glitchy live streams these days, while amature YouTubers have flawless and engaging ones. I guess those big outlets have a monopoly so they don't bother to try.

To what extent is the Met Gala drifting toward a pay-to-play model? This seems far more commercially driven than past exhibits like Heavenly Bodies, or maybe it’s just more in your face.

I think the theme was at once flawed and too broad. There are only so many black dresses with pearls and white camelias you can view. And nothing mentioned the flaws with Lagerfeld at all. Was it forbidden? I was aware of his prejudice against larger people and I had hoped someone would come as a donut with sprinkles. Previous themes like Heavely Bodies, Man vs Machina, and the one about Camp (or was it punk) just seemed to give creatives more room to stretch. Claire Danes' light up dress or Blake Lively's color changing dress would have been welcome last night.

It’s amazing how much money, time, and effort goes into this event and yet the hosts and livestream were so bad! Even if Anna doesn’t have her eye on EVERY choice, her reputation is that she does, and the comms were a huge flop. Either hire people who have fashion knowledge AND can hold a conversation, or just give us 2-3 HD still shots to watch.

I felt like I missed a lot of the fashion “action” in favor of awkward interviews with people who either gave over-practiced statements about Karl or stumbled through trying to say anything nice!

And why was the red carpet so odd? Has anyone given a reason?
