My 76 year old husband, who has not had a good fashion moment since the 80’s, will be thrilled to know his silver tipped belts will bring him back to “older hunk status”.

I am very excited for him (and you)

Super interesting especially because a lot of female influencers have been trying to make this same tech CEO look happen in the women's world since around 2020 and calling it "minimalism." (Link to one example here but not to single this person out!) https://www.instagram.com/reel/CnMqpudqY_8/?igshid=MDM4ZDc5MmU=

Really good point! I don’t feel like this really TOOK? I could be wrong but I want to say the closest thing that caught on was Old Celine.

But I did have the thought that like these men’s clothes are really gender fluid. If my husband owned these things I would try to wear them

Definitely gender-fluid! It didn't take on the runways but the Instagram/YouTube influencers have been *obsessed* with this minimalist look. Lydia Tomlinson and Emma Hill are two of the more popular but there are others. Celine, especially the SS20 collection, was pretty close but like you said -- not to this degree. So it's more of a street-style look for women since 2020 through influencer circles. And to your point, also very 90s because the early 90s was very much about everyone wearing genderless casual clothes, especially for younger people. There wasn't this stark contrast of "tight clothes for girls, baggy clothes for guys" that took root in the late 90s and early aughts. It was this genderlessness of GAP t-shirts and sweaters and jeans that could easily be worn by both genders. In any case, great post! Really well-observed and I do hope men start dressing like this again

Er, make that Celine Spring 2021 and F/W 2021, with the baseball caps, oversized bomber jackets, unstructured long cardigans, hoodies, dad jeans and general dadcore revival under the auspices of "youth quake." I think those are two collections that actually trickled *up* from street style/high street and mixed Celine's veneration of the bourgeois style with "stealing some of your dad's clothes." Which include a lot of 90s tech-dude casual elements imo. I could be wrong! But a great topic and a great post.
