Your last point is so important, and it's something I think about often: that A.I. will warp our collective perspective so much regarding what "normal" looks like that average people and places will eventually be considered totally inadequate, prompting us to further retreat into our digital fantasy worlds. We are escaping reality more and more everyday. And what will the long term effects of that be?

I just had this thought while reading the post, so it’s not well-developed, but pivoting to AI is weirdly like returning to illustrations, which predated photos. I wonder how fashion illustrations differed from photographs when that initial transition happened. Were there similar levels of unreality, for example?

Amy, your book is the read of the summer, as far as I’m concerned. I preordered it and have been sharing your Vanity Fair interview with friends who seem like good potential readers. Fingers crossed for you!
