Carrie Has Aidan, But Also: Layers. Deep, Hypnotic Layers.
I'm embarrassingly excited for this show's return.

The majority of the internet and And Just Like That fans (raises hand) (#teamche) seem to think that the most significant thing about recent photos from the set are Carrie and Aidan together. But they are wrong. Her outfit, somehow working beautifully given how confusing it is, is far more compelling.
This is not to say Carrie and Aidan aren’t a provocative pairing. Questions tumble forth: Is Carrie dreaming? Are they together together? Is Carrie posing for street style photographers and is that why she’s walking straight down the double yellow line of what looks to be an active New York City street? Is Aidan her Instagram boyfriend now and does he have a ring light in one of those huge pockets? (Remember: Carrie has gone digital, with a podcast and everything. I pray season two brings us into her TikTok era, for which she already has the perfect signature line to open each video: “I couldn’t help but wonder…” Which could be followed by pressing questions like: “if I should finally try oat milk.”)
Well, we don’t know if Carrie and Aidan are exactly together together yet, but they do seem to be walking together in that purposeful, whimsical way that Carrie does where she’s always kind of trotting. I think this trot is why Carrie and Sarah Jessica Parker both have become such fashion mega-icons. They don’t just wear their clothes, they jog them around. No flounce that can flounce goes un-flounced. These clothes practically play the dulcet vibraphone tones of the theme song with their rhythmic movements. Even when Carrie’s wearing a tight dress with an equally tight updo, she’ll throw on a swishy blazer to give her look that JOG ME vibe.
This layered Aidan-adjacent outfit is mesmerizing in its Carrie-ness — so swishy, so textured, so casual-looking but also not. She just threw this on, but she also couldn’t have without studying the colors and the ruffles and the prints and the tightnesses to make sure it would all stack up just right, like a delicious, painstakingly assembled crepe cake. The mix is so well done it’s hard to tell what’s even going on. She’s got a dress, velvet over-the-knee boots, a cape and then another cape? I can’t quite tell what the hot pink accent piece is. Maybe it’s a scarf? Another cape? an out-of-context skirt? Something from the Project Runway castoff bin at Mood Fabrics?
